Information for Landlords or Potential Landlords
Do you own a rental property? Are you willing to lease it to a refugee family looking for a new start in life?
If so, your property could become the launchpad for healing and justice for these families and our community. We have a team of partners who are equipped to assist you on a number of levels, whether it be a rental property team, friendship partners, or the resettlement agency specialists. No matter what, you will not be taking this on alone.
In addition to housing refugees, our goal at HYN is to increase the housing stock in our city. In other words, we are working to create more available housing. A great way to aid in this effort is to rent your spare rooms out to those in your community, whether that be single friends, family members, or other people you know who are in need.
Our In
Ada County Housing Authority has new resources for first time landlords:
Can I charge market rate? Yes. Although it is helpful to have rent subsidized for a refugee family, it is not necessary.
Is there a team of people helping the family?
Yes. There will be multiple groups of people helping the family in their transition including a team that teaches rental etiquette.
Is there a risk for delinquent payments?
Possible but unlikely. For the first 6 months rental support is guaranteed through the federal government and then the following 6 months it is available upon request. After that the family is hopefully financially stable to pay rent independently.
